Consider a tree for a moment. As beautiful as the trees are to look at, we don’t see what goes on underground – how they grow roots and build a trunk. Trees must develop deep roots and strong trunk in order to grow strong and produce their beauty. But we don’t see the roots and trunk. We just see and enjoy the beauty. However South Korean artist Lee Jae Hyo can see the beauty in the strong trunk of the Tree. Lee Jae Hyo is a master craftsman. He turns discarded pieces of wood trunks into stunning wood sculptures. His sculptures are attention-grabbing pieces of art.
These incredibly sleek wooden trunk sculptures are the result of Lee Jae Hyo’s meticulous work. He assembles various chunks of wood trunk, he burns and then carefully polishes them to create visual contrast and a smooth surface. To illustrate his art, he says “I like to make the most out of the material’s inherent feeling. Little things add up to transmit a stronger power, greater energy. That is why I have quite a lot of large pieces.”
